Simultaneous Interpretation

Firstly we have to determine what simultaneous interpretation means.Simultaneous interpretation is the most complex form of interpretation as it is performed simultaneously with the speaker. From a technical point of view, simultaneous interpretation requires the use of special

equipment: the interpreter is placed in an isolated cabin and his words are transmitted through headphones to the listeners. This type of interpretation is used for large-scale events with a large number of participants. Additionally simultaneous interpretation is used when it is necessary to translate into several different languages simultaneously.

The greatest advantage of simultaneous interpretation is that the speaker’s words are transmitted to the audience without breaks or pauses. This allows the orator better to hold the attention of his listeners, to feel the audience’s mood and to react appropriately to their feedback.

Why do simultaneous interpreters work in a pair?

Usually simultaneous interpretation is carried out by two interpreters. The process of simultaneous interpretation is serious loading on the interpreters, quickly causing fatigue. Therefore there is a necessity to change interpreters. Normally interpreters work 20-30 minutes after that change. A simultaneous interpreter is a competent expert not only in the language but also in the field of interpretation.

Simultaneous interpretation is considered the most complicated kind of interpretation and, hence, one of the most highly paid.

Proceeding from the operating conditions of simultaneous interpretation (two interpreters in a cabin), you order at least two interpreters. Minimal order of work of simultaneous interpretation is 4 hours (half a day). Extra charge for week end days, holidays and over 2 hours - 100 %.
